Euro politicians propose sex toy ban

Politicians at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, are proposing banning sex toys.

The ban would not be directly on sex toys. It would actually be aimed at a type of plastic that is often used to make these toys – PVC. While PVC is useful for making washing machines, old-fashioned mobile phones and sex toys, it is also environmentally unfriendly.

Politicians want to ban the material to force manufacturers to use more eco-sensitive substitutes. This would mean that thousands of vibrators and sex toys would have to be scrapped. It would also mean a ‘rabbit cull’. Rabbit vibrators are typically made from PVC. The toys were popularised by the show Sex in the City and have since sold by the thousands. If the new EU law comes into place, many of these rabbits would have to be scrapped.

Eco-friendly sex toys

The sex toy industry has already played a part in helping the environment. A sex toy recycling scheme has been set up, that allows people to send their old vibrators and dildos away, so that these toys can be turned into new ones. Rechargeable vibrators have also become popular. These models of vibrator are more energy efficient. They do not require batteries and can last for a long time following a charging session.

A PVC ban would take things one step further. Sex experts say that many women would miss their kinky accessories, if the powers that be in Belgium told them to get rid of their toys. In the long run, though, maybe this will be a good change for sex toys. After all, people who like sex toys are good at looking after their sexual needs, so why shouldn’t they be good at looking after the planet’s needs as well?
